Single Pattern Competition
The Single Pattern competition provides entrants with a small selection of commercial patterns to construct and put their own spin on the finished product.
We’ve chosen four patterns for your imaginations to play with. One for the ladies, one for gentlemen, one unisex and an accessory. Two are mainstream pattern companies available at most fabric stores, two are generally online only. The most expensive pattern is $20.
Decades of Style – 1930 Kitchenette Pajamas – #3001
This 1-piece pair of pajamas can be made from contrasting fabrics to really accentuate the design lines. If you want to elongate your silhouette, use one fabric for the garment. It is VERY loose fitting in the hips but the shoulders are a true fit so go by your bust measurement in choosing your size.
The tie waist allows for a variety of waist sizes without any alteration to the pattern. The original pattern did not give waist or hip measurements for sizes; choose your bust size and go from there. Order online from the company
Burda Style – Lederhosen – B7290
Traditional leather trousers, either long or as knee breeches with bib.
Both with lacing, ornamental stitching and buttoned braces. Designed to be made from leather and suede but suitable for other fabrics. Available wherever Burda patterns are carried or from the company.
Simplicity – Messenger Bags – 2358
Go Green Men’s messenger bag in five styles.
Simplicity calls it a Men’s Messenger Bag but it’s not really gender specific. Includes some instructions on creating Green bags using recycled materials.
Available wherever Simplicity patterns are carried or from the company site. Roman Exile Collection sewing pattern.
Tandy Leather Factory Chaps Pattern #6023-00
Three design options included. Available online from Tandy Leather and Amazon.com (or in store if you’re lucky enough to have a Tandy near you).
Note: Jeans or trousers must be worn under the chaps, else be forced to wear the boxers of shame.
Rules
1. You must be a registered member of Costume-Con 30 to enter or model garments. Garments must be recognizable as being made from one of the three patterns.
2. You may make and enter more than one garment, but an individual should plan on appearing on stage only once.
3. If you wish to combine garments into a “look”, you can model them at the same time.
The Single Pattern Contest will be held during the Friday Night Social at CC31. Time to be confirmed. Details to follow.
