Recommended Spots to Visit
We are not offering tours to these locales, but highly recommend visiting them if you have time and want to explore between panels and masquerades. There’s an enormous list of area attractions here, including sites of interest to historical costumers and history buffs, nature nuts, and anyone looking for a good time in the Greater Madison Area.

Additionally, the Dane County Farmer’s Market will be open for the summer season during Costume-Con 34! The Farmer’s Market is held on the Capitol Square on Saturday morning, which may conflict with some programming items of interest so we cannot organize a sponsored tour to visit. Attendees who wish to go to the Farmer’s Market and pick up delicious local foodstuffs like cheese curds, cream puffs, and Stella’s Bakery’s famous hot cheese bread will be on their own, but we will provide maps!

Hall Costume Contests

It’s Costume-Con, so of course people are going to be wearing costumes. But even if you don’t want to go up on stage or make something specifically for CC34, as long as you’re in a costume, you might get an award! We will have roving secret judges carrying ribbons, who are free to award them to anyone they see whose costume impresses. There are no rules or structures, just fun costumes!

The following special categories have been suggested for each day, in case you need ideas for what to pull out of the closet to wear. Note, these categories are for the hall contest – no one is required to wear costumes with these themes at any time.

Friday: The Seasons
Saturday: Fairies
Sunday: Peasant wear from any era
Monday: Pajama Party! Bathrobes and sleepwear
Bright Steampunk: It’s time to cut out the drab and but some color excitement into steampunk clothing!

Friday Night Social

The Friday Night Social is CostumeCon’s traditional party to get to know your fellow con-goers and kick off the conference in style. There will be food, fun, and the showcase of the Single Pattern Contest entrants. Have some nibbles, mingle with other costumers of all types, and dance the night away!

CC34’s Social Theme will be Dance Among the Sidhe.

As twilight descends upon the natural world, wondrous creatures hidden from human view come out and play. Join us as magical creatures (great and small!) feast, cavort, and dance in a fairy ring! This evening event will include great food, cocktails, and entertainment. Along with the Single Pattern Contest, guests will be able to enjoy dancing and a variety of other fun activities (to be announced, so check back in!).

Social begins at 7pm, Single Pattern Contest begins at 8pm.

Even if you’re not participating in the Single Pattern Contest, the Dance Among the Sidhe is a wonderful opportunity to create and wear that nature-themed fantasy creature you’ve always dreamed of making; fairy, gnome, elemental, giant, troll, faun, shapeshifter, harbinger, pooka, siren; to name just a few.

Enjoy the Wonder of Nature in revelry with a myriad of fantastical creatures!

Additional information will come out prior to the conference!

Your coordinator for the Friday Night Social event is Danielle McKinney.

Consuite

Costume-Con 34 continues the tradition of a ConSuite provided to attending members as a place to gather and socialize between panels. The ConSuite is not intended to replace actual daily meals, it mostly serves snacks, coffee, soda, and some breakfast nibbles, but there may be special offerings during hosted parties and certain times.

Organizations, conventions, and other chapters of the ICG are welcome to volunteer to host the ConSuite for blocks of time, for a minimum of an hour at a time. Your party will be advertised in advance and with fliers. The ConSuite will provide utensils and keep the standard fare out, but you are welcome to provide your own unique snacks and drinks for your hosted slot.

Costume-Con 34’s Consuite will be a great location to meet fellow costumers, learn about other local conventions, and get a snack. Snack choices will include vegan, gluten free, low sodium, and low sugar options (if you require such fare, please inquire with the host). The Consuite is located on the second floor of the Marriott in their Hospitality Room.

The Consuite Schedule:

Thursday: 4pm to 8pm
Friday: 7am to 7pm
Saturday: 7am to 6pm*
(Closed during Sci-Fi/Fantasy Masquerade and reopening during the awards ceremony to close at 1am.)
