We are featuring two Canadian designs in our selection, but our friends south of the 49th, south of the equator and elsewhere have no reason for alarm; both designs are available by mail order through the Internet, or by old fashioned post. We are hoping to arrange with our respective designers, Linda MacPhee of MacPhee Workshops and Andrea Steell of Akasha Clothing, to have both available for sale at CC 18, and at Costume College this coming July.
PATCHWORK PUZZLE COAT by MacPhee Workshop: a dolman sleeve jacket that can be made reversible, with standing collar or hood options. Originally designed to be made using a polar fleece base and incorporating quilt blocks as decoration, the possibilities are limited only by your ingenuity. A “stained glass” variation has been produced which gives you the option of more “organic” forms than traditional blocks. MIXED MEDIA by Akasha Clothing is an easy shirt/jacket and skirt, mixing textures and fabrics. Based on the concept of freely mixing different fabrics of similar drape and weight without undue concern for content, this outfit lends itself to experimentation. The shirt can be made long- or short-sleeved, incorporating details like pockets to match or contrast with the underlying fabric blocks. RULES
The garment must be made using one of the above patterns, and the overall silhouette must be recognizable as derived from one of those patterns.
Materials and techniques are entirely up to you, however, the no messy substances rule will be invoked, and we request that the PG-13 standard be upheld. The director has authority to disqualify any entry that she deems unsuitable.
No entry fee will be charged, even if you are not planning to attend the convention, however, you cannot show your entry yourself on-stage unless you are a member. If you cannot find a model to show it for you, we will find someone at the convention who will. All entries will be shown on stage, videotaped and photographed, so by submitting an entry, you are agreeing to its display in this fashion
You may enter as many pieces as you like, but it is suggested that you only model one entry yourself, and either provide models for the others yourself, or request that the convention supply them.
PRE-REGISTRATION
We do not require pre-registration, but it would be nice to know how many pieces will be in the show in advance, so we can plan space and time for judging and display. Registration forms will be available at the convention. If you are sending your garment(s) with someone else, please let them know if there is anything in particular that you would like the MC to read about your entry, or else send it to the convention address or my personal E-mail. Please notify me through the convention address or via E-mail (removed) of the number of entries you have planned and whether or not you require models by May 1, 2001.
JUDGING
Judging will take place Sunday morning of the convention, before the show. A panel of judges will examine the garments for creativity, workmanship, use of materials and overall concept. If you wish to offer documentation, we ask that you limit it to three pages, otherwise the judges would appreciate your availability at the time of judging to discuss your entry.

Finally, I would like to put out a call for models willing to show others’ work on-stage, all sizes welcome. Please contact me through the convention address or via E-mail, with your coat or dress size.
