“… Thrilled to announce that San Diego is bidding for Costume-Con 35 in 2017. I’ve wanted the con back in Southern California for a long time, as it was spawned by San Diego fandom/costumers, so this is very exciting news!”

Saturday Afternoon Social: Tea By The Sea
Saturday afternoon tea will be….a time to spend with friends and family. Watch the “Captains and Beachwear Through The Ages” fashion show.
The tea is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The tea will cost $55 per person. On offer will be a selection of four tea sandwiches, fresh fruit, scones, with lemon curd, cream and jam, along with four petit-fours. You will have a selection of hot teas to drink with this or if you’d rather, a nice glass of peach iced tea.
Then watch the fashion show with captains from various eras, like either Captain Kirk or Captain Hornblower. There will also be a nice variety of beachwear and swimwear through the ages. If you’re interested in participating—thinking about that secret Starfleet uniform in the back of your closet, or maybe your grandmother’s swimsuit?—then please contact the tea mistress to participate in the fashion show.
Richard Man Photography Exhibit
In a separate room on the first floor, you will find Richard Man’s exhibit of his “Transformations” project and related work. Richard Man is a photographer from the San Francisco Bay Area and a longtime fan. In “Transformations” he creates gallery-sized portraits—shot on large-format (4×5) color film—of cosplayers/costumers both in and out of their costumes.
Hall Costume Awards
Are you fond of showing off your costume in the halls? You’re in luck: our sharp-eyed hall judges will be wandering, looking for gems in the crowd. Don’t be surprised if someone comes up to you and hands you an award for your awesome work!
A Hall Costume is a costume worn by a convention member while he or she wanders the halls and attend panels. These are not eligible for entry into the Masquerades for competition, but can be entered as exhibition only. There will be awards given for particularly creative and original Hall Costumes by special judges. Hall Costumes can be original, purchased, rented, or can be something you haven’t worn in years. You can also wear a costume you’ve worn in a Masquerade previously and won prizes for. Your creativity doesn’t stop when you step off the stage, so show off your hard work!
The Museum (Exhibit Hall)
Within the Museum, you will find an assortment of wonderful pieces. In one corner, you’ll see the wonderful costumes of our chief Guest of Honor, Karen Schnaubelt. Karen has been costuming for years and has brought some of her wonderful costumes for all to see.
In another corner, you’ll find the Iron Tailor, Bob Mogg. He’ll bring some of the cool gadgets that he has cobbled together and made amazing costumes from. And if you want, you can have your picture taken in front of his wings that will be hanging from the wall at the back of the room.
Continuing on around the room, you’ll find samples of Susan Lazear’s work and maybe the results of her teaching.
And in the middle will be a work of art. It is the wedding dress of a fantastic beader, Melinda Layden.
There will be quilts, aloha shirts, dolls, and props from HokuProps and a couple of examples of Dial C Costumes’ work.
Walk on in and see what people have created.
